How To Get Here

Arrival in Santiago, Chile from the United States / International Flights

Your international flight will arrive to Arturo Merino Benitez Airport in Santiago (SCL) between 6 and 10 am. Airport is located about 20 minutes from downtown by car.

Upon landing in Santiago on your initial arrival into Chile, you will go through immigration. The process is easy - just have your passport and immigration documentation in hand*
*Every person over 18 years of age who enters Chile through Santiago Airport (SCL), must fill out the Agricultural and Livestock Service (SAG) Affidavit and indicate whether he or she is carrying vegetable and/or animal products in order to avoid the entry of pests and diseases that could harm agriculture. To avoid physical contact, the SAG has provided a Digital Affidavit available to passengers at sagingresoachile.cl or by a QR code available at the airport. Schedule your entry to Chile: declare before starting your trip or when entering the country through your mobile device*.

As you exit customs you will be in the International Terminal (T2), so it will be necessary for you to transfer to the Domestic Terminal (T1) to check your bags for your next flight to Puerto Montt (PMC).
If you are planning to arrive early and stay in Santiago, please allow us to make some recommendations for your stay there. Normally, our clients take the first available flight from Santiago to Puerto Montt airport where we will have your transportation and evening accommodations arranged in advance. The following morning, your ride will take you to Puerto Montt’s airfield (La Paloma) so you can fly to Chaiten, and from there we’ll provide transportation to the lodge.

Chile is a Spanish speaking country, but you don’t need to worry if you don’t speak the language. Most of the people you’ll ran into will understand and speak some English.

Currency and Payments

The currency used in Chile is the Chilean peso (peso chileno). Usually represented like this $, CL$, or CLP.
To give you an idea of how a peso is worth, the exchange rate USD/CLP ranged this last 12 months between 750 and 850 Chilean pesos for 1 US dollar.
Credit cards are widely used in Chile and ATM machines are pretty much available everywhere.
We are ok accepting US dollars in cash here.

How To pack

Nights are generally cool but comfortable and you should have a jacket or warm sweater. Rain and wind can and will occur at any time and we can’t stress enough the importance of having quality breathable raingear, jacket, and pants at all times.
We suggest layering of your clothes while fishing. Fleece is an excellent way to stay warm underneath your raingear. We suggest you be ready for weather changes as they can occur rather quickly. Breathable waders and quality non spiked fishing boots are preferred by most clients.
Also, don't forget to bring hat, gloves, sunglasses, insect repellant, sun block and most importantly, your fishing gear & tackle.
